2017 Filene Young Artists
After rigorous auditions in 7 cities, Wolf Trap Opera selected 15 Filene Young Artists for the 2017 season. This summer's roster includes 3 sopranos, 2 mezzo-sopranos, 4 tenors, 3 baritones, 1 bass-baritone and 1 bass. They were born in 9 different states and 4 foreign countries (Australia, Egypt, New Zealand and South Korea.)
Because WTO selects the artists before determining the repertoire each season, the 2017 repertoire plays to the specific strengths of this year’s company.
Some have already begun their freelance careers, and others come directly from young artist training programs, including those at Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago.

2017 Studio Artists
Each year, Wolf Trap Opera selects 14-18 Studio Artists, who have recently finished undergraduate or graduate programs. This year’s Studio Artists come from a broad range of the best conservatories and universities in the US, including The Juilliard School, University Michigan, Rice University, and Indiana University.
Studio Artists take on small or ensemble roles in what is typically their first professionally conducted, directed, coached, and designed production.
